BAGASSE (sugar cane)
Most of our product range such as our burger boxes, plates, cups, bowls etc. is made from bagasse.
Bagasse is the fibrous sugar cane pulp remaining once sugar has been extracted from cane. In effect, bagasse is a by-product of the sugar cane industry, which would otherwise be burned for energy or left to compost. To extend the life of this by-product, this pulp is instead molded into various shapes to make take away food containers.
Bagasse food packaging is:
- Heat resistant (up to 100 C)
- Water resistant
- Oil proof
- Microwave safe
- Freezer friendly
They are 100% biodegradable and compostable after use.

POLYLACTIC ACID (PLA) BIOPLASTIC
Green Home uses PLA and a heat resistant derivative, CPLA, to make its bioplastic cutlery.
Bioplastic is a form of plastic derived from plant sources such as hemp oil, soy bean oil and corn starch. Green Home supplies two different kinds of Bioplastic, PSM and PLA.
PLA is basically made from corn. PLA is made from lactic acid. Lactic acid is made from dextrose by fermentation. Dextrose is made from starch, and starch is made from carbon dioxide and water. Corn starch or sugarcane is the common feedstock however, PLA can also be produced from other starch-rich agricultural by-products such as maize or wheat. PLA is heat sensitive to 40 C.
They are 100% biodegradable and compostable after use. Bioplastics will biodegrade into compost in 60 days in optimal composting conditions, or longer in sub-optimal conditions.

PLASTARCH (PSM) BIOPLASTIC
Our heat resistant bioplastic cutlery, knives, forks, spoons are made from PSM.
Bioplastic is a form of plastic derived from plant sources such as hemp oil, soy bean oil and corn starch. Green Home supplies two different kinds of Bioplastic, PSM and PLA.
PSM is commonly perceived to be made from potatoes. PSM is made of modified cornstarch combined with several other biodegradable materials, which may include potatoes, sugar cane, wheat etc. The cornstarch is modified in order to obtain heat-resistant properties, making PSM one of the only bioplastics capable of withstanding high temperatures of up to 125 C.
They are 100% biodegradable and compostable after use. Bioplastics will biodegrade into compost in 60 days in optimal composting conditions, or longer in sub-optimal conditions.

CELLOPHANE BIOPLASTIC
Wood based cellophane is used to make Green Home’s clear bioplastic bags.
Green Home supplies Natureflex NP cellophane which is manufactured from renewable wood pulp and harvested from plantations operating good forestry management principles. Cellophane is made from regenerated cellulose. Cellulose is made from wood, cotton or hemp. Its low permeability to air, oils, greases, and bacteria and heat seal ability makes it useful for food packaging.
Our wood cellophane bags are 100% biodegradable and compost excellently in home compost bins.
Green Home can supply wood cellophane in bag, sheet or roll form according to clients requirements.
