Bioplastic is a form of plastic derived from plant sources such as hemp oil, soy bean oil and corn starch. Green Home supplies two different kinds of Bioplastic, PSM and PLA.
PLA is basically made from corn. PLA is made from lactic
acid. Lactic acid is made from dextrose by fermentation. Dextrose
is made from starch, and starch is made from carbon dioxide and
water. Corn starch or sugarcane is the common feedstock however,
PLA can also be produced from other starch-rich agricultural by-products
such as maize or wheat. PLA is heat sensitive to 40 C.
They are 100% biodegradable and compostable after use. Bioplastics will biodegrade into compost in 60 days in optimal composting conditions, or longer in sub-optimal conditions.

cornstarch is modified in order to obtain heat-resistant properties,
making PSM one of the only bioplastics capable of withstanding high
temperatures of up to 125 C.
