Dear Customer,

Gree(n)tings

Welcome to the Spring issue of Green Home's newsletter. As you will see, the festival season is already upon us and it has been encouraging to see how many organisers are becoming aware of making their events more green. Festivals are a fantastic way to educate and encourage us to live in a more environmentally-conscious way. By supplying festivals with our products we strive to bring about a shift in people's mindsets which, hopefully, will have an effect long after the party is over.

Be part of the biodegradable revolution.

Green Home Highlights
Last month, Green Home had an exhibition stand at the Sustainable Living Expo which formed part of the University of Cape Town's first 'Green Week'. The week included a series of events including, documentary screenings, panel debates, talks and other awareness raising activities around environmental issues such as climate change and sustainable practices.

This month, Green Home will be represented at the South African Council of Shopping Centers annual conference held in Durban. We will be represented by Organic Carbon in conjunction with A-Z Philosophy as part of a visual presentation on sustainable packaging options. We will also be supplying food stalls at the Magaliesburg Country Classic Festival, The Great Escape, in September.

taste
The Table Mountain Cableway Bistro and the Table Mountain Cafe (which recently opened it's doors) are both serving delicious food on our biodegradable plates! Because of this, we have been featured in Taste Magazine (as one of 3 ways to save the planet this month) as well as Go Magazine.

The methane question: we go looking for the answer....
compost
Degrading, or decomposing, material produces all kinds of gasses including, methane and CO2. One of the arguments against biodegradable packaging is that when it ends up in a landfill it produces more methane than plastic. Green Home consulted some waste-management and compost experts to address this question. Read on....
Greening the festival scene

edThis month, the festival season kicks off and we are very excited that Earthdance, the annually-held global music festival for peace will be using Green Home's biodegradable products at this year's event. For the 11th Earthdance in South Africa, the theme is 'Honouring the earth' and what better way to show it than using products that are made from renewable resources and are 100% biodegradable!

Green Home will also have a stand at the Gastronomica food festival in Knysna this month. For Green Home, Gastronomica's commitment to promoting 'food with integrity' is an exciting opportunity to encourage the shift towards biodegradable food packaging here in South Africa.

Watch this space for our report back next month on Rocking the Daisies, the first carbon-neutral music festival in South Africa.
