turtleDegradable versus Biodegradable
You may have noticed that Albany Bakeries have started labelling their plastic packaging as being biodegradable. You, as a consumer are being duped, because their packaging is made from petroleum-based plastic which is degradable rather than biodegradable. Read more.
Degradable/biodegradable/
compostable

The terms degradable, biodegradable and compostable have started to appear on packaging and bags, but these terms are often used incorrectly and leave the consumer confused.

Here is a dummy's guide to understanding what the terms mean.

Consumer trends favour the move towards biodegradable

It is encouraging that, globally, there has been a consumer backlash to petroleum-based plastics for both health and environmental reasons. In its most recent report, a leading trend forecaster has stated that packaging designers need to think more holistically about the challenges we face in the future.
